Ibram Gaunt fanart. Old as heck (drawn summer of 2004) but I still like it. Still love the candle.
To lazy for a dark bg. Inserted Black Sabbath's lyrics for Sabbath Bloody Sabbath instead. Apologies.
It's supposed to be set during the Hagia incident, when Gaunt got a bit depressed. Don't know what I'm yabbering about? Please, people! Go read, now! I command it
This series is amazing, I actually cried while reading Only in Death. But, anyway, this is a GREAT drawing of Gaunt, the expression is priceless, plus the candle is a great
I cried at Sabbat Martyr, so, I guess it makes us equal.
This picture is one of those that lives with you. I drew it, what?, 5 years ago, and I still like it. Everything just came together in it. And Black Sabbath helped me get into the right mood. I'm glad you liked the candle, as I have problems with still life (and backgrounds incidentially). I need to do more still life drawings

Thank you so much for that! Only thing that is sad is that I don't have time to draw Gaunt's Ghosts fanart as much as I'd like. That I prefer realism over the newly-fangled anime-WH40k-style that seems to flourish (like a cancer IMO) doesn't make it easier for me.
This certain state of Gaunt, pretty run-down, was something that stuck to me because it is at that moment that Ibram really comes alive and stops being a Gary-Stu commissar. We see his flaws in broad daylight. It is tragic and at the same time very beautiful. Maybe I was brave for daring to do this scene (or just stupid), but Abnett was even braver when he dared showing his protagonist from such an unfavorable light.

I share your sentiments on the anime-style 40k art. Nothing wrong with anime, but not in 40k, it's just.... wrong!
It was brave of Abnett to take Gaunt that route, to take his nigh-on impregnable character and suddenly breach him, show all his human frailties, stripped of the Commissariat bravado... It was quite shocking to read it that first time, but when he pulls it together, and comes out stronger at the end of it, you begin to feel for him even more. One of the reasons I dread a new Ghosts novel - never know when Mr Abnett will decide to kill him off!

There might be typos of amazing insanity in this, as I had to remove my contacts just now (they started to itch) but I will reply to this instead of waiting:
As you might've noticed from my gallery, the Space Marines and daemons within are drawn stylized to a certain extent, particularly the power armour. Some would say it is derived from "edgy" (what the hell that is) anime, but it is not. I tried my hand at it a long time ago (you can still see it in how I draw women, and as is plain to see, I suck at drawing women) but soon decided against turning it into "my style" as I never felt that I progressed as an artist. I am secretly very happy over every critic of my art that ever crossed paths with me because of this.
Dread new Ghosts novels, eh? Read Only in Death yet, then?
I might do more, perhaps during summer. You never know when my hand decides it was a while since I drew something and it would be fun to do it again. I have a gift for an old friend, who shares an interest in the Ghosts, to do during summer. It will feature Gaunt and Mkoll being generally as bad-ass as only they can be, and I will have to CG it. Insofar I havent been able to begin with it, because I am afraid I won't be able to make Mkoll look bad-ass enough. I have Gaunt down, but not Mkoll.
Sorry, TL;DR reply here...

Haha, yes I read Only In Death last month.... I was in a state of near panic for much of that novel! I won't detail why in case anyone yet to read OID stumbles across this...
I can imagine capturing Mkoll's bad-assness would be tricky. Bets of luck with that, and I'll be watching for the result!
