The Ultramarines.
Courage and honour, brothers!
Due to the hideous mashing of lore by Matt Ward, the Ultrmarines are derided as Ultra-Smurfs today. Which is a goddamn shame, really. As much as I pan Graham McNeill for being a semi-competent writer that finds fantastic gold nuggets now and then, I really like what he tried to do with the 13th Legion in the Uriel Ventris series. Or what I have been able to glean from reading summaries of then, because fuck me if I am going to read 1500+ pages of McNeill's writing. Just no.
The Ultramarines are the originators of the Codex Astartes, yes, but to my mind, the truly noble to NOT rub this fact in the face of any others following after. Roboute Guilliman was a master at logistics and strategy, as well as a master at delegation of command, and he knew when to be quiet and listen to his brothers (possible exception Lorgar and Alpharius...). At least that is what I have gleaned about him. He made an example out of Monarchia to his brother Lorgar, because he was ordered to do it by the Emperor.
The Ultramarines are, if anything, first among equals, and nothing more. They hold the Eastern Fringe against the tyranids and tau, together with their Primogenitor chapters, and they do not complain about it. They still answer calls for aid a galaxy away (their Honour company present at Cadia during the 13th Black Crusade, despite a full on invasion of 'Nids...).
As for the drawing: Not one of my best in this series (I think that so far is the Iron Hand and the Night Lord). But it was fun to draw Maximus plate! Never did that before. Also, the boltgun. I went back and realised that I had only drawn a bolter with the Space Wolf and the Iron Hand (A combi-melta at that!).
So, it felt very fitting to have a boltgun as the weapon of choice for the most codex-adherent of all: The Ultra-Marines
